Puff Pastry + Butter = Instant Flaky Cinnamon Rolls
This recipe is so quick and easy you're gonna love it, I happen to have puff pastry always on hand so it's easy to make this whenever we want!
- Puff Pastry Sheets Two sheets provide layers of buttery, flaky pastry that bake up beautifully-no kneading or proofing required.
- Melted Salted Butter Applied to help the cinnamon sugar stick and to enrich the pastry as it bakes.
- Light Brown Sugar & Ground Cinnamon A classic pair for a cozy, caramelized filling when baked-simple and delicious.
- Egg Wash (egg + water) Brushed on before baking to give the rolls a shiny, golden finish.
- Glaze (Confectioners' Sugar, Vanilla Extract, Heavy Cream or Milk) Mixed into a smooth drizzle that adds sweetness and glossy charm post-bake
If you like sticky pecan rolls then adding some finely chopped-up pecans or walnuts would be a great addition to the puff pastry filling. I love to serve these with something savory too, here are all my breakfast recipes.

Perfectly Flaky Cinnamon Rolls with Puff Pastry
Looking for irresistible cinnamon rolls that are easy to make? No waiting for the dough to rise with this recipe! These simple puff pastry cinnamon rolls are done in just 30 minutes- think hot-from-the-oven, cinnamon-y delicious cinnamon rolls, ready fast. Topped with a simple icing made from confectioner's sugar, these are perfect for a weekend brunch or just as a sweet treat anytime!
- Total Time: 30 Minutes
- Yield: 16 Cinnamon Rolls 1x
Ingredients
Cinnamon Rolls
- 1 Box of Puff Pastry/ 2 Puff Pastry Sheets
- 2oz (¼ Cup) Salted Butter, melted
- 100 grams (½ Cup) Light Brown Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Large Egg
Icing
- 120 grams (1 Cup) Confectioner's Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 2-3 Tablespoons Heavy Whipping Cream or Milk
Instructions
- Most puff pastry in the United States comes in the frozen section so you may need to thaw your puff pastry for an hour or so before you start if yours is frozen.
- Preheat the oven to 415°F/213C and line a baking sheet with a silicone liner or parchment paper and set aside.
- In a small bowl mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon, set aside.
- On a clean work surface, sprinkle some flour and lay the first puff pastry sheet down, I roll the Trader Joe's sheets just a little out but don't with the Pepperidge farms sheets. Using a pastry brush or your clean fingers spread half of the melted butter on the pastry sheet then sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture and use your clean hand to press the cinnamon sugar mixture into the pastries, so it sticks to the melted butter.
- Roll the pastry up long ways, I like to cut the ends off to make the pastry roll even. Then cut into eight pieces. Repeat with the second sheet of puff pastry and remaining cinnamon sugar. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet and store in the freezer while you wait for the oven to finish preheating
- In a small bowl mix together the egg and a splash of water to create an egg wash. Use a pastry brush to brush the egg wash on each puff pastry cinnamon roll before baking. Once the oven is hot enough bake for 15 to 19 minutes. The pastry should be golden brown once it's done baking. Let cool for 5 to 10 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool before drizzling.
- In a small bowl mix together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream. You can add a splash more of cream if you want a thinner glaze. Drizzle on top of the puff pastry cinnamon rolls. Best enjoyed immediately. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Leftovers best warmed up in the toaster oven.
Notes
- Make these ahead of time. Make the puff pastry cinnamon rolls, cut them up then chill them in the freezer until frozen then store in an airtight freezer safe container. You can bake from frozen too!
- Reheat them. The toaster oven or normal oven at 300F for 8-12 minutes is my favorite way. You can microwave them but the pastry will end up soft and soggy.

Debbie says
Looks easy, what do you do with the other half of the cinnamon and sugar?
Thanks!
Elizabeth Waterson says
Oops sorry for the confusion! You will use two sheets of puff pastry, each sheet getting half of the cinnamon sugar. Hope that helps! I hope you try these Debbie, we love them! XX Liz

I’m sure they will be awesome!
Kat Eva says
So EASY!! these were a hit with my kids and so quick to make.
Joe says
Can you roll the prepared second puff pastry sheet around the first to make larger cinnamon rolls?
Elizabeth Waterson says
Theoretically yes, but I have not tested it. I would be worried about the outside browning too fast before the inside puff pastry has baked. so if anything I would cover them with foil to prevent the outside from browning too much. Please report back if you try!
