ice cream and caramel on top of peach dump cake recipe

I am always on the hunt for a new delicious dessert, preferably one served warm with ice cream. Because ice cream makes everything better am I right?

Peaches seem to be everywhere right now and so I knew I had to make a peach flavor.

    Let's get to the recipe.

    What is a dump cake?

A dump cake is a layer of fruit or pie filling topped with a layer of yellow cake than a layer of butter. There is generally no mixing involved, you just "dump" each layer in the baking dish.

For this recipe, there is a little more involved, but hardly any time at all. I mixed the cake mix with cinnamon and almonds but you could just dump it all in the pan, you just risk it not being evenly distributed.

Then for the butter instead of just melting it, I used brown butter and I added vanilla extract to the brown butter.

But seriously those steps take all of 5 minutes more, and in my opinion that 5 minutes makes all the difference.

What are the ingredients for a Peach Dump Cake?

    • Canned Peaches ( I prefer peaches in juice rather than syrup)
    • Box Yellow Cake Mix
    • Ground Cinnamon
    • Sliced Almonds
    • Butter, browned
    • Pure Vanilla Extract

How do you make a Peach Dump Cake?

    Preheat oven to 350F/180C.

In a 9"X13" baking dish add both cans of peaches including their juice, spread out into an even layer.  I prefer to use the peaches in their natural juice, opposed to peaches in heavy syrup but if you wanted a very sweet layer of fruit then use the syrup.

    peaches in a white dish

In a small bowl mix together the yellow cake mix, ground cinnamon, and almonds. You could just sprinkle this directly on top of the peaches but I wanted to ensure the almonds and cinnamon were evenly distributed.

topping ingredients for a pump dump cake recipe

In a medium pot over medium heat brown the butter. Here is a post with step-by-step photos to brown butter.  Once butter is browned pour into a heatproof bowl to stop the cooking then add the vanilla extract, mixing to combine.

cake mix on top of peaches before baking

Sprinkle the cake mixture evenly on top of peaches, making sure to cover every spot. Lastly, drizzle the butter/ vanilla mixture evenly over cake.

Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the cake, is fully cooked through, the top is golden brown and bubbling.

Serve with ice cream. Store leftovers in the fridge. I prefer to reheat in the oven for 10 minutes at 300F/149C. You can microwave leftovers but I find the microwave makes the topping more mushy.

Next time try my apple and blackberry crumble or pumpkin dump cake!

Hi Matt, the texture is going to be affected by which brand of peaches you use, and do keep in mind this is a dump cake so it is going to be a liquid, sweet kind of goopey texture underneath the topping. Sorry, you didn't enjoy it. XX Liz

I'm so glad that Matt made his comment. I thought that I was doing something wrong. It's suppose to be kind of goopey underneath the topping. Thanks.

Super tasty and simple recipe. My 7 YO made it nearly all by herself; it really built her kitchen confidence! We are a family that enjoys a fruit cobbler or crumble and I think next time we’ll double the peaches for even more juicy bits. Thanks!
