This Chocolate Rice Pudding is a one-pot treat that comes together in minutes. Creamy milk and sugar are cooked with tender rice and rich cocoa powder until thick and silky. A splash of cream and optional chocolate chips add lush texture, whether you serve it warm or chilled. It's soothing, chocolatey, and perfect any time you're craving cozy comfort.

Sometimes I make something and I am literally speechless as to why it has taken this long to make it. If you are a returning visitor to CBQ then you know that I am a true chocoholic (check out all my chocolate recipes). It runs in my family. I also adore my baked rice pudding inspired by the one my Nan makes. We are rice pudding lovers. So making this chocolate rice pudding was really a no-brainer for me.
I made the recipe based on one cup of cooked rice so you can easily double, triple, or quadruple for however many people you want to serve. Rice pudding is one of the homiest and most comforting desserts to have with your loved ones. The creamy texture is something else!! I hope you love this simple chocolate rice pudding recipe.

Why Milk + Cocoa + Rice Make Comfort Food Magic
- Milk & Sugar The creamy base sweetens and cooks the rice into a soft, pudding-like texture without needing starch or eggs.
- Cooked Rice Using already-cooked rice makes prep quick-and it holds its shape while absorbing flavor.
- Cocoa Powder Adds deep chocolate flavor without extra sweetness. Mixes smoothly with milk when whisked in.
- Heavy Cream (optional) A splash at the end enriches the pudding and gives it a luxurious mouthfeel.
I love to top the rice pudding with a bit of whipped cream and some mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings. Thinking about it now a sprinkling of cinnamon would be delicious too!

Here we are at the Fresh Air Retreat with a Minute Rice bar with all the toppings! I made a peaches and cream rice bowl, it was so good!

The Fresh Air Retreat would not have been possible without the amazing brands that sponsored the event. Incredibly grateful and thankful to Certified Angus Beef, Zwilling, AdThrive, Stonyfield, & Grace + Vine Studios.

Easy Chocolate Rice Pudding-Comfort in a Bowl
This Chocolate Rice Pudding is a one-pot treat that comes together in minutes. Creamy milk and sugar are cooked with tender rice and rich cocoa powder until thick and silky. A splash of cream and optional chocolate chips add lush texture, whether you serve it warm or chilled. It's soothing, chocolatey, and perfect any time you're craving cozy comfort.
- Total Time: 15 minutes
- Yield: 1 Serving 1x
Ingredients
- 1 cup of Cooked Rice
- 2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 2oz (¼ Cup) Heavy Whipping Cream
- 4oz (½ Cup) Whole Milk
- 2 Teaspoons Cocoa Powder, I prefer Dutch-process
- 1 Teaspoon Butter
Instructions
- In a medium-sized pot add all of the ingredients and place on the stove over low-medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce the heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes, stir frequently until your desired thickness is achieved.
- Turn off the heat and let cool for five minutes then transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate chips. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Notes
- The longer this rice pudding sits the thicker it will get, you can always loosen it up a bit by adding more liquid, like a splash of milk.

Yes this hit the spot. I wanted something chocolatey but didn’t know what. Saw this and had Minute rice in cupboard so decided to try it. Very quick and didn’t last long. Will definitely make it again.
