You won't be able to stop eating this cake batter puppy chow! Classic puppy chow takes on a cake batter flavor twist! Made with simple ingredients- white chocolate chips, Rice Chex cereal, powdered sugar, yellow cake mix, and sprinkles. This extra-sweet Cake Batter Puppy Chow snack is an indulgent treat!

Last week I went on a road trip to Santa Barbra with 3 of my best girlfriends. Life has been a rollercoaster over the past month. I was super busy all week so when Friday rolled around I was SOO excited to get out of town.
Friday morning I was running around town getting a car wash and stopping by Ralphs to get some ingredients for my road trip snack! I, of course, picked up some White Cheddar Cheeze It's because those are just SOOO freaking delicious! LOVE LOVE LOVE! So I had my savory/salty snack now I needed my sweet snack. I love cake batter-themed desserts so when I saw Cake Batter Puppy Chow floating around Pinterest I knew I HAD to make these.
Let's get to the recipe
Ingredients
You only need five things for this addicting sweet snack!
- White Chocolate. I like to use good-quality white chocolate, my preference is the Callebaut white chocolate callets. You can also use a white chocolate bar finely chopped or white chocolate chips
- Rice Chex Cereal. You could also use corn Chex if you wanted but rice Chex mix provides a great neutral crunch.
- Confectioner's Sugar. This helps coat the white chocolate so the mix isn't sticky.
- Yellow Cake Mix. You can use any store-bought cake mix.
- Sprinkles. I used a blend of jimmies and a few nonpareils. You could use all jimmies but I wouldn't suggest using only nonpareils. If you're a sprinkle lover check out my Funfetti cookies next.

Instructions
If you are concerned about consuming raw flour, you can heat treat it. Preheat the oven to 350F/180C and sprinkle the cake mix into an even layer on a sheet pan. When the oven is preheated bake the mixture for 5 minutes to heat treat it, this prevents any potential bacteria from forming. Let the cake mix cool completely before proceeding with the rest of the recipe.
Melt the white chocolate. Keep in mind white chocolate is very temperamental and burns easily so take your time doing this. You can add the finely chopped chocolate or the white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on 50% power for 15-second increments, mixing in between. Once the chocolate is almost completely melted take it out and just keep stirring the residual heat will melt the rest of the chocolate. Alternatively, you can also melt the chocolate over a bain-marie.
In a large bowl add the Chex mix and pour the melted chocolate and mix gently so each piece of cereal is coated in the chocolate.
I like to use a large food container with a lid or you can use a large ziplock bag. Add the confectioner's sugar, yellow cake mix, and sprinkles and mix to combine.
Add the white chocolate Chex mix to the powdered mixture and put the lid on and mix to combine.
Empty onto a lined baking sheet to cool and set up. Store in an air-tight container.
Can you double
You can totally double this recipe just make sure you shake it in a container that is large enough for it to really shake around to evenly coat it all so this might be two-gallon size ziplock bags or two plastic containers.

Mary says
I am concerned the cake mix contains raw flour and not sure if prebaking the mix would change the flavor.
Elizabeth Waterson says
Hi Mary, you can prebake it and it shouldn't change the flavor, you are baking for such a short time. Please let me know if you have any other questions or if you try the recipe I would love to know what you think! XX Liz
