This Maple Cream Cheese Frosting is silky, tangy, and infused with cozy maple flavor. Softened cream cheese and butter whip together into a smooth base, then powdered sugar and maple extract turn it into a frosting that’s sweet but never cloying. It spreads beautifully and works with many fall desserts.

  • Total Time: 13 Minutes
  • Yield: 2 1/2 Cups 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8oz Cream Cheese completely softened at room temperature
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 Tablespoon-2 Tablespoons Maple Extract
  • 360-480 grams (3-4 Cups) Confectioners Sugar/ Icing Sugar*

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment or a large bowl with a handheld mixer beat the cream cheese and butter for 5 full minutes, until light and fluffy.
  2. Sieve the powdered sugar to prevent any lumps and add half to the butter. Beat for 3 minutes then add the remaining powdered sugar and mix for 3 more minutes. If you want a thicker frosting that holds its shape more when piping add more confectioners sugar until you reach the desired consistency. Keep in mind this can sweeten the frosting an lot so you might want to add a pinch of salt to balance out the sweetness.
  3.  Add the maple extract to the frosting and beat for another 2 minutes.
  4. Spread or pipe frosting. Store in the fridge for up to 7 days, let come to room temperature and mix before using.

Notes

  • Use up to two more cups of confectioner's sugar for a thicker frosting.
  • Once the frosting is made cover it and store it in the fridge for up to 4 days. When ready to use let sit at room temperature to slightly soften then beat the frosting for a couple of minutes.
  • You can also freeze the frosting by storing it in a freezer safe air-tight container. Let thaw in the fridge overnight then when you are ready to use let sit at room temperature to slightly soften then beat the frosting for a couple of minutes.
