In a large bowl beat the softened butter and sugar together on medium speed for 2 minutes or so, you want to really cream the mixture until its light and fluffy.

Add in the eggs, one at a time, and beat until fully combined.

In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt

Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a liquid measuring cup or small bowl combine the whole milk, sour cream, and vanilla extract.

Add half of the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix to just combine, then stir in half of the wet ingredients mixing until just combined, then repeat with the remaining ingredients.

Mix the Mixtures

Pour cake batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the cake is fully cooked.

In a small saucepan add the cream and cook over medium heat for a couple of minutes. Then add the corn syrup and mix and then let sit.

Make the Ganache

Spread a thick layer of the ganache on top of the cake and then let sit so the ganache can set up.
