Step 1

In a large bowl add the apples.

Mix the Filling Together

In a small bowl mix together the sugar, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, lemon juice, and lemon zest.

Mix the wet mixture

In pie crust place one layer of sliced apples and evenly sprinkle half of the clove sugar mixture over the apples.

Layer into Pie Crust

Step 3

Place the second pie crust dough on top and seal the pie crusts together. Cover with an egg wash.

Add Egg Wash and Bake

Step 4

Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least three hours. If you cut into the pie too quickly all the filling will ooze out, the pie needs a long cooling time to properly set up.
