Oreo balls, or Oreo truffles are an easy dessert recipe to make. Cream cheese and Oreo crumbs are used to make these Oreo balls. Perfect for your next Party!
I have a SLIGHT obsession with Oreo's. I absolutely LOOOVE Oreo Cookie Shakes. But let me tell you there is only one good Oreo Cookie Shake and it is from Jack in The Box! Most places blend the Oreo's into the vanilla ice cream but Jack in The Box keeps the chunks of the Oreo's in it. Which is why I am obsessed...and my sister too.
I am also obsessed with cream cheese. It makes EVERYTHING better. Including Oreo crumbs. Then dip those two in chocolate. Hello welcome to Heaven!!
Make these. Like now. Everyone who eats one of these babies falls in LOVE with them!!
Let's get to the recipe
Ingredients
For these little bites of heaven you will need:
- Oreos. You'll need just regular Oreos, not Double Stuff Oreos or Thin Stuff.
- Cream Cheese. The at room temperature
- Good Quality Dark or Semi- Sweet Chocolate. I use Callebaut Chocolate Callets but you can use any good quality chocolate. You can get away with using chocolate chips but chocolate chips have emulsifiers in them to help they stay in the shape.
- Good Quality White Chocolate. I love using a combo of white chocolate and dark chocolate to create a beautiful design on the truffles. But you can most certainly use only one type of chocolate.
- Coconut Oil. I like to add a little coconut oil to thin out the chocolate for easier dipping. I use this candy dipping set to dip the truffles for ease but you can most certainly use a fork. This helps the chocolate drip through.
You could also use candy melts to dip the Oreo Balls in, keep in mind candy melts don't taste quite as nice as pure chocolate!

Instructions
Line a half sheet pan with parchment paper, wax paper, or a silicone liner.
Place the Oreo's in a food processor and crush them to a fine crumb. Set aside ¼ cup of the crumbs.
Add the cream cheese to the Oreos and pulse until fully combined.
Using two spoons or a one tablespoon cookie scoop, to scoop the Oreo mixture into balls. Place the Oreo truffles on the prepared baking sheet making sure they are not touching.
Place the pan in the freezer for 20 minutes to harden.
Melt the chocolate adding ½ tablespoon to each bowl of chocolate. You can melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in 15 second increments, stirring between, stop microwaving before the chocolate is fully melted. Keep stirring and the residual heat will help the remanning chocolate.
Alternatively you can create a make shift double broiler/ Bain Marie to melt the chocolate and oil. Place a small pot with a little bit of water over low heat and add a heatproof bowl that can sit on top of the pot without touching the water. Add the chocolate and coconut oil to the bowl and let the steam of the hot water melt the chocolate slowly. Whatever you do, just don't rush melting the chocolate as chocolate burns easily.
Using a fork or melting stick dip the hardened Oreo balls into the melted chocolate. Make sure to tap off excess chocolate then place back on wax paper. I did about five at a time, then I would sprinkle the leftover Oreo crumbs on top then move on to more dipping. Drizzle any remaining chocolate on top for designs, I like to drizzle white on top of dark chocolate!
Let set. Then store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
FAQ and Tips for Success
Oreo truffles could not be simpler, all you need is some crushed Oreos and softened cream cheese to make the filling and then dip them in melted chocolate.
Due to the cream cheese in the Oreo truffles you must refrigerate them.
You must chill the Oreo truffle balls before dipping them in the melted chocolate otherwise the warmth from the chocolate will make the Oreo balls fall apart.
While making Oreo truffle balls in a food processor is the easiest you can also place the Oreos in a ziplock baggy and use a rolling pin to crush the cookies into fine crumbs. Then use a hand mixer or spoon to mix in the softened cream cheese until fully combined.
- Make the Oreo truffles festive by using holiday colored sprinkles- red and green sprinkles for Christmas, Pastels for Easter, Red, White & Blue for the 4th of July etc.
- Switch up the flavors by using Golden Oreos, Mint Oreos, Birthday Cake Oreos or whatever flavor they release next!
- Or you could add a ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract to the Oreo cream cheese mixture! Add crushed candy canes on top for a fun Christmas flavor!
