New York Eats

New York, New York, New York, gosh I love New York

There is a buzz about the city, that is like nothing else, which keeps me coming back for more. Another reason I adore the city so much is my best friend lives there. And the main reason I adore New York is the food. Oh the food. The restaurants. There are so many in such a small place. Every trip to the city becomes some what of an eating tour. Lots of my friends and family ask me where they should have their meals, so here we are with my favorite New York Eats.

Spot Dessert Bar

This was a last-minute decision, we already had ice cream before dinner, then dinner and then we needed something sweet again.. a vicious cycle really. The matcha lava cake was delicious, and there were a few other things on the menu I will try next time.  This really is my kind of place, a restaurant just for dessert, what dreams are made of!

Milk & Cream

Seriously?! Ice cream blended with cereal and then toppings? When we ordered this, I told Kat, there’s no way I will be able to finish even half of this. Boy was I wrong, it was SOOOOOO good. I ate over half then forced myself to throw the rest away otherwise I would have made myself ill. I had Cookie Dough Ice Cream blended with Cinnamon Toast Crunch topped with Roasted Almonds and a Caramel Drizzle. Honestly what heaven tastes like!!

Cheeseboat

Georgian Restaurant filled with loads of bread and cheese!  Most famous for their cheese boats but I loved this Megruli Khachapuri – Tender Yogurt Dough w/ Melting Cheese Filling & Cheese Added on Top. After lunch we walked over to Van Leeuwen Vegan Ice Cream, it was absolutely delicious, the best vegan ice cream I have ever had. Then we went to the Wythe Hotel for a cocktail at their rooftop bar for gorgeous views of the city.

Look at all that cheese in those layers

We also had the Cheeseboat with Bacon added, we wanted the bacon and egg yolk, cuz DUH!

Malatesta Trattoria

True Italian vibe, loud, busy and cash only.

Loved dinner here we had the Burrata and two pastas dishes. The cheese ravioli in a pink sauce was to die for. And as you would at any Italian Restaurant we finished the meal with Tiramisu.Just how I like it, those thick layers of cream MmmM. Waiters were casual and friendly. Great experience there.

Momofuku Milk Bar

I always stop here. Every trip. B’day Cake Truffles are a true favorite. So is Crack Pie, Compost Cookies and duh Bagel Bombs!

Levain Bakery

You HAVE to stop here, you probably recognize the cookies from Instagram. They are huge and gooey, chock a block full of chocolate. MY faves are chocolate chip walnut and chocolate peanut butter chip. Honestly go!

Shake Shack

While I am a California Girl and In ‘n Out is a favorite of mine, I do really enjoy Shack Shake. I even visit Shake Shack in London. The crinkly fries are delicious and the burgers are delicious, totally different form In ‘n Out. I think its worth a shot and an easy quick lunch when you are walking around the city.

Sadelle’s

Breakfast dreams are made here. Bagels, cream cheese, salmon, salads, cinnamon buns… the list goes on. Classic New York brunch you should definitely make a reservation.

Dominque Ansel

You can visit the bakery or kitchen, or in my case both. DA is most famous for their cronuts. They sell out and you must pre order in advance, I have had a cronut from their once but honestly cronuts aren’t my thing. DA is almost famous for their cookie shot, it was good nothing to write home about. Their apple tarte tain was delicious. One of my fave desserts. Their granola is also spectacular, you can buy some to go or I had breakfast at the Dominique Ansel Kitchen, the granola was served toasted with pear compote and yogurt, seriously delish. The cookies and pastries are delicious and beautiful. My sisters faves are the DKA’s- Dominique’s Kouign Amann, croissant like dough with crunchy sugar sweetness, you will love them.

Seriously how cute are these pastries!!

Root & Bone

The best fried chickening NYC. Okay, I haven’t tried all the fried chickens in NYC but Root & Bone is truly delicious. Whether for brunch or dinner, you will enjoy every bite. The waffle chicken sandwich is delish, you must order the biscuits with jus and Mac and cheese, cuz Mac and cheese.

Sarabeth’s

With locations next to Central Park this is the perfect brunch spot. A scrumptious brunch with a stroll in the park after, what a beautiful Sunday. All the egg dishes were delicious as well as the ricotta pancakes but my favorite was the almond encrusted French toast. Holy Cow, so delicious.

Hope you have a fabulous eating adventure in the big city and try some of my favorite New York Eats!

Olive Pit, Brea CA

One  my favorite places to go for lunch or dinner is definitely Olive Pit. I discovered this place about 1 1/2 ago. Once it was discovered it become a hit in my life. Olive Pit is doing something right because it is always popping in there!

Mainly, I don’t think there are a lot of mediterranean eateries in North Orange County. So, Olive Pit is filling that void. And doing a good job I might add.

I generally like to eat here because it is so tasty and to me it is a healthy meal. 90% of the time I order the Mediterranean Salad with grilled Salmon. The salad is fresh chopped romain, fresh feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers and olives (which I omit). I absolutely LOOOVE it I could eat is every day.

Olive Pit is not a table service restaurant. But is on the high side of the price range for a order and sit down restaurant. If you order one of the “family” meals though it is not expensive at all. I went with my mother and sister the other day and we ordered the largest family meal. It consisted off a roasted whole chicken, 3 kabobs, and 3 small sides. We chose the Mediterranean salad, Roasted Artichoke Hearts and Basmati Rice. We also ordered a side of hummus.

Go to Olive Pit for lunch or dinner.

Lemonade, West Hollywood Review

Lemonade, West Hollywood CA

One thursday a few weeks ago, I took the day off to spend in LA with one of my best friends Courtney. We were strolling around West Hollywood and decided  it was time for some lunch at Lemonade. Courtney heard good reviews. We walked down the street to  Lemonade.

When we arrived it was obvious. The building was a light green with yellow writing and yellow umbrellas on the patio. It was surrounded by bushes with yellow flowers. We walked in to a busy lunch place. They are famous for their “marketplace” a bunch of fresh salads ranging from tomato avocado salad to a kale and mushroom or even salmon and basmati rice.

I ordered the tomato avocado, lime and pine nuts salad. It was MARVELOUS! I loved every single bit.

I also ordered a salmon and basmati rice salad. It was good, probably wouldn’t order it again.

For the marketplace you can order the salad with a protein land or sea. I had the curry chicken. It was okay. It wasn’t bad by any means. But it was not good either. It was dry.

For dessert we got a chocolate chip cookie and a red velvet cupcake. Courtney heard that the cupcakes were good. I don’t know if I got a bad batch because it was not good at all. It was dry and crumbly. The frosting was good. I didn’t even eat half of it and it was a mini size cupcake. The chocolate chip cookie on the other hand was YUMM-O!! It was such a buttery cookie. It was crispy on the outside and nice and chewy on the inside. It reminded me of the Chocolate Chipper from Panera Bread but a better version.

I will definitely be returning to Lemonade.

Los Arroyos, Santa Barbra

It was Saturday Night in Santa Barbra. We were 4 girls on a weekend away. We wanted some good ol’mexican food. We heard that Los Arroyos was good from my friend’s sister and when on Yelp it had some good reviews. So we gave it a go!

We walked in and were expecting a sit down restaurant. But it was more casual. Order, sit down, and someone brings your food to you. The staff was really friendly and attentive. Especially as it was not a sit down and order restaurant. I was really craving Flautas but since they didn’t have that on the menu I ordered the Carnitas Chimichanga. Basically a big Flauta. We ordered some chips and guacamole to start. It was a good portion for the price and was tasty! But not to spicy for me 🙂 When the Chimichanga came out it was a good size and served with a dollop of sour cream and guacamole on top of it. Two of my favorite things ever! I definitely ate it with a knife and fork. It was nice and flavourful. I didn’t finish it all, we all walked out so full. Later on we got Cold Stone, what a nice treat!

Next time I am in SB I will probably grab some lunch at Los Arroyos 🙂

If you are in Santa Barbra, Camarillo or Montecito check out Los Arroyos.

Pain Du Monde

PDM or Pain Du Monde is quite scrumptious. I have grown up visiting Pain Du Monde at Fashion Island. My auntie Marguerite works there. Some of my fondest memories growing up were driving home from school and pulling up to the house to see a box sitting outside the door filled with treats. Specifically the chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon twists and chocolate chip pecan cookies. They are all amazing. I absolutely love them so much still to this day! And Marguerite for dropping them off 🙂

Anyways, recently Pain Du Monde received a gorgeous makeover and moved to a stand alone store in Fashion Island. And the menu grew. I absolutely love to come here for lunch. It is so delicious. The salads have so much going on. But it’s not overwhelming. Everything is so fresh. You can taste it in each bite. Which makes it that much better. I usually always order the Mediterranean Salad but this time I shared that salad and the Seasonal Salad. Both equally as delicious.  And to top of the salad it is garnished with a mini chocolate chip cookie. Now, for the average person that is the perfect ending to a meal. But me my friend, I am not average. I need more than a mini version of the chocolate chip cookie. I need the regular large and in charge size cookie. I NEED the Cinnamon Twist with hard pieces of cinnamon sugar at the bottom of the twist. And a meal would not be complete without a Fruit Tart. And PDM gives their Fruit Tart a little something extra by having a layer of chocolate in between the tart and custard. Hello AMAAZING!

PDM has four locations Fashion Island, Dana Point, Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar. www.pdmcafe.com Next time you need a fabulous fresh fantastic lunch or bite to eat stop by PDM. You will not be disappointed.

Below are some pictures I snapped with my phone, so they are not the best quality!! Hopefully soon I will have the new i-phone!! 🙂 🙂

Joan’s On Third

I have heard/read great things about Joan’s On Third. I am sad I waited this long to go but being in Orange County the drive to and from LA is a bit much! Let’s be honest I HATE IT! Traffic SUCKS! Anyways my Nan is in town visiting from England (YAY) so we decided to go to The Museum of Tolerance and Joan’s happened to be only a 10-15 minute drive away!

The Museum of Tolerance was amazing. It was so well put together. Very classy. At the beginning of the Holocaust Exhibit you were given a card of a child and at the end of the exhibit you would find out if you’re child survived. Mine did but it was so horrific to think about all of the poor innocent children who did not.

We were lucky enough to sit in on a Holocaust survivor’s story. His name was Joseph. His brother left for America in 1938 and he was scheduled to go in 1939 (As the government only allowed 1 family member per year) but the War started and Joseph instead began living in the ghetto’s and eventually was sent to multiple concentration camps, including Auschwitz. He went through so much, more than many of the other survivors he was really meant to live and tell his story.

After the MOT we headed over to Joan’s on Third. It was 3 miles away but took 20 minutes to get there! Typical LA traffic. Well I am happy to say it was worth it 🙂 I was with my mom, nan and sister so we got to try a lot!

*Half of the pictures were taken with my cellphone – Silly me forgot my camera*

FRESH MOZZARELLA, TOMATO & BASIL drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, cracked pepper & sea salt- This was AMAZING! So yummy I highly recommend it!
I saw this delicious square of Mac & Cheese on the way out. It looked amazing. So thick creamy and cheesy. I regret not trying it next time I definitely will!!

CROQUE MONSIEUR with ham, gruyere, Dijon mustard and béchamel sauce- My nan ordered this and generously shared! It was so tasty and delicious!

APRICOT GLAZED HAM & BRIE with mustard caper sauce- My mother ordered this sandwich. We couldn’t taste any apricot but it was a good ham sandwich.
Grilled Cheese- My sister ordered this it was a wonderful grilled cheese. The bread was definitely loaded with butter which made it that much better 😉
Flour-less Chocolate Cake Roll- This was tasty not my favorite but I definitely enjoyed it!
The rest of the photographs are taken at home! Hence, the better quality 🙂

Sour Cream Coffee Cake- Very nice, not out of this world though.
The Lemon Bar was very tasty and lemony 🙂
I did not try this slice of cake but my Nan did and she enjoyed it and unfortunately we can’t remember the name! But look how pretty it is!
I absolutely LOVED this strawberry cake! The cake was moist and delicious and so was the frosting it was perfect! And I will definitely order it again!!
