Best Places to Eat in NYC

New York City..how I love you. I really just love the place. I wouldn’t move there but I do love it. I think I love it so much because every time I go it’s based on food and shopping. If you let me spend the day eating and shopping it would be the best day ever for me. So basically those 5 days in NYC were the best days ever! 😉

The Milk Bar

I have always read/heard about The Milk Bar, so I decided this would be the trip I finally visited.

I enjoyed it so much I went twice. And both times it was amazing.

Birthday Cake Truffles- They were a mix between a cookie dough texture and a cake ball. I am IN love! Literally in LOVE. One of the best things I have EVER eaten…EVER!! Seriously amazing. I can not speak highly enough of these damn birthday cake truffles.

Crack Pie- Another absolutely scrumptious delicious amazing slice of heaven!! I felt like the texture was that of a lemon bar but it was a buttery, carmely, toffeey ish flavor.

Ess-a-Bagel

Bagel + Cream Cheese= YUMM-O

Bagels. I absolutely love them, especially if it’s an everything or cheese bagel or if I am feeling extra special a cheese & everything bagel. I visited Ess-a- Bagel for the first time this trip. When we arrived it was busy. We got in line and waited to order. Once I ordered the bagels I went to the register to pay, it took FOREVER. It was really annoying, as I had hot food and was just waiting to eat! It was worth the wait!

We had a Garlic Bagel with bacon, egg and cheese. It was very tasty. The bagel was like GARLIC obsessed. Coming from a garlic lover, I really think the bagel had too much garlic. I never thought I would ever say there was such a thing as too much garlic. But this was it!

We also ordered an Everything Bagel with cream cheese. It was scrumptious. We enjoyed every bite!

Morandi

My best friend lives in New York City and I often speak to her as she is leaving work for the day. She passes an Italian restaurant on her way home that is always packed. When I last visited we decided to go. That night we had a reservation so we didn’t have to wait. The restaurant was warm and inviting. We sat towards the back.

We ordered lots of food.

Grilled Artichoke Hearts

Butternut Squash Salad

Buffalo Mozzarella

Sausage Stuffed Olive Breaded & Deep Fried

Meatballs

Polpettine alla siciliana
meatballs with pine nuts & raisins

Pici al limone
hand-rolled spaghetti with lemon & parmesan

Paccheri con ragú alla napoletana
large pouch pasta with pork ragu & caciocavallo cheese

Fettuccine di castagne con gamberi e zucca
chestnut pasta with shrimp, squash & black kale

Spaghetti Bolgnese w/ Meatballs

The food was amazing at Morandi, honestly not one bad thing to say about the place. Honestly give it a go, you will not regret it!

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar

I fell in love with Max Brenner Chocolate Bar in Australia. I was there for 16 days in February and visited good ol max 14 of those days. This place is honestly AMAZING! I fell in love everytime we went.

As soon as I knew I was going to NYC I knew I would be visiting the Max Brenner in the city. We went and it was the WORST experience I have ever had. The customer service was hideous. Honestly I have never experienced anything like it. Even the manager was a joke. Coming from the business I know things happen, you run out of ingredients, mistakes are made, some staff are not the politest but seriously this place was horrible.

Luckily, I have already experienced the amazingness of Max Brenner so I did on let this affect me, compltely. I will probably never return to the NYC location. Luckily there is a location in Las Vegas that I  visited last week that was great, just like all the locations in Australia.

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

 Clinton St. Baking

Clinton St. Baking was also a first for this trip. We went for breakfast with full intentions of getting the famous blueberry pancakes. But it never happened. I will be going back to try the pancakes. The french toast we had was spectacular. I loved every bite!

Alice’s Tea Cup

We wanted to go to Alices Tea Cup for brunch on Saturday but when we finally got there around 1:45pm the wait was 1hr 30 minutes. It was sad but we could not wait.. We were so hungry! I made sure to grab a berry scone before we left and I am glad I did. It was one of the moistest scones I have ever had.

Tiramisu Cake- Costco

I was strolling the aisles of Costco, which may I say is not a smart idea, when I came across this cake. It was on special as well, which I can never resist!

I was SOOO excited to try it. I absolutely LOVE tiramisu. My favorite of all time is from Roman Cucina. Anyways I had mixed thoughts about how good this would be. Costco usually puts out really good products but I also have really high standards for tiramisu.

I was anxious to take a bite so as soon as I got home I did!

I was pleasantly surprised. The cake was good and moist. It could have been moister but it was good enough. I enjoyed the coffee flavor. Although there was no liquor :/ I always like that addition. 😉

Obviously I think a homemade tiramisu is better. But on short notice/laziness this is a GREAT option. I would definitely bring it to a party or dinner get together.

Andersens Danish Bakery & Restaurant, Santa Barbara

Andersen’s Danish Bakery & Restaurant, Santa Barbara CA

Spending the weekend in Santa Barbara was wonderful. Time with my girls is always treasured. We had some good lunch but something was missing. You guessed it Dessert. As I am sure you can tell I insist on dessert after every meal. Well we were strolling along State Street  I decided to yelp, and found Andersens. It was only a few blocks ahead of us so we decided to head towards it. It was so perfect. There is a patio out front, where we ended up sitting. We walked inside and started to look at everything in the glass case. So many things looked appealing. As we were ooohing and ahhing at all the choices a waiter asked us if we wanted to sit down and he would bring us a tray of their best sellers to choose.

We sat down outside and the waiter promptly appeared with a large tray with about 15 desserts on. He named each one and thoroughly described it. It was wonderful. We decided on four desserts. The chocolate cake, eclair, strawberry tort and a pear tart.

Wow the chocolate cake was SOO chocolatey and I loved every single bit.

The eclair was scrumptious it had a layer of raspberry on the bottom which I wasn’t too keen on. But the fresh pastry and fresh cream were out of this world.

The strawberry tort had a cookie crust and strawberries, cream and chocolate. Does that not sound like heaven? Well it was heaven until one of my friends decided to eat it all 😉

The pear tart was very nice, not my favorite but still very tasty.

Pain Du Monde

PDM or Pain Du Monde is quite scrumptious. I have grown up visiting Pain Du Monde at Fashion Island. My auntie Marguerite works there. Some of my fondest memories growing up were driving home from school and pulling up to the house to see a box sitting outside the door filled with treats. Specifically the chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon twists and chocolate chip pecan cookies. They are all amazing. I absolutely love them so much still to this day! And Marguerite for dropping them off 🙂

Anyways, recently Pain Du Monde received a gorgeous makeover and moved to a stand alone store in Fashion Island. And the menu grew. I absolutely love to come here for lunch. It is so delicious. The salads have so much going on. But it’s not overwhelming. Everything is so fresh. You can taste it in each bite. Which makes it that much better. I usually always order the Mediterranean Salad but this time I shared that salad and the Seasonal Salad. Both equally as delicious.  And to top of the salad it is garnished with a mini chocolate chip cookie. Now, for the average person that is the perfect ending to a meal. But me my friend, I am not average. I need more than a mini version of the chocolate chip cookie. I need the regular large and in charge size cookie. I NEED the Cinnamon Twist with hard pieces of cinnamon sugar at the bottom of the twist. And a meal would not be complete without a Fruit Tart. And PDM gives their Fruit Tart a little something extra by having a layer of chocolate in between the tart and custard. Hello AMAAZING!

PDM has four locations Fashion Island, Dana Point, Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar. www.pdmcafe.com Next time you need a fabulous fresh fantastic lunch or bite to eat stop by PDM. You will not be disappointed.

Below are some pictures I snapped with my phone, so they are not the best quality!! Hopefully soon I will have the new i-phone!! 🙂 🙂

Joan’s On Third

I have heard/read great things about Joan’s On Third. I am sad I waited this long to go but being in Orange County the drive to and from LA is a bit much! Let’s be honest I HATE IT! Traffic SUCKS! Anyways my Nan is in town visiting from England (YAY) so we decided to go to The Museum of Tolerance and Joan’s happened to be only a 10-15 minute drive away!

The Museum of Tolerance was amazing. It was so well put together. Very classy. At the beginning of the Holocaust Exhibit you were given a card of a child and at the end of the exhibit you would find out if you’re child survived. Mine did but it was so horrific to think about all of the poor innocent children who did not.

We were lucky enough to sit in on a Holocaust survivor’s story. His name was Joseph. His brother left for America in 1938 and he was scheduled to go in 1939 (As the government only allowed 1 family member per year) but the War started and Joseph instead began living in the ghetto’s and eventually was sent to multiple concentration camps, including Auschwitz. He went through so much, more than many of the other survivors he was really meant to live and tell his story.

After the MOT we headed over to Joan’s on Third. It was 3 miles away but took 20 minutes to get there! Typical LA traffic. Well I am happy to say it was worth it 🙂 I was with my mom, nan and sister so we got to try a lot!

*Half of the pictures were taken with my cellphone – Silly me forgot my camera*

FRESH MOZZARELLA, TOMATO & BASIL drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, cracked pepper & sea salt- This was AMAZING! So yummy I highly recommend it!
I saw this delicious square of Mac & Cheese on the way out. It looked amazing. So thick creamy and cheesy. I regret not trying it next time I definitely will!!

CROQUE MONSIEUR with ham, gruyere, Dijon mustard and béchamel sauce- My nan ordered this and generously shared! It was so tasty and delicious!

APRICOT GLAZED HAM & BRIE with mustard caper sauce- My mother ordered this sandwich. We couldn’t taste any apricot but it was a good ham sandwich.
Grilled Cheese- My sister ordered this it was a wonderful grilled cheese. The bread was definitely loaded with butter which made it that much better 😉
Flour-less Chocolate Cake Roll- This was tasty not my favorite but I definitely enjoyed it!
The rest of the photographs are taken at home! Hence, the better quality 🙂

Sour Cream Coffee Cake- Very nice, not out of this world though.
The Lemon Bar was very tasty and lemony 🙂
I did not try this slice of cake but my Nan did and she enjoyed it and unfortunately we can’t remember the name! But look how pretty it is!
I absolutely LOVED this strawberry cake! The cake was moist and delicious and so was the frosting it was perfect! And I will definitely order it again!!

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar

My first night in Australia was a bit of a blur. As soon as I got off the plane I was overtaken by a fever-the chills were out of control! Once we arrived at my cousins house my sister went on an adventure to find me some medicine. By night time my fever seemed to calm down so we went out to dinner with my cousin. We arrived at  Bondi Pizza, which was delicious but I was too sick to take pictures, or eat much for that matter 🙁 . On the way out my cousin suggested a chocolate bar across the way but I felt to sick we passed on it (BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!). Little did I know that chocolate bar would become one of the best parts of my trip and another excuse to travel to New York, Boston, Las Vegas even Philly!
Max Brenner Chocolate Bar was amazing! A cafe type place that revolves around chocolate? Chocolate drinks, chocolate cakes, chocolate pots, chocolate EVERYTHING! Please if you have the opportunity to vist DO IT! You will not regret it!!

The Tutti Frutti Waffle is one of their best sellers. A homemade Beglian Waffle drizzled with pure melted chocolate served with strawberries, bananas and vanilla ice cream! YUM
Italian Thick Milk Hot Chocolate was to die for!!! Pretty much drinking pure melted chocolate AHHHMAZING!!

I ordered this delicious treat MULTIPLE times! Everyime we came back I just could not help myself it was scrumptious!
Pizza dough smothered in pure melted chocolate topped with corn flakes, homemade marshmallows, carmelized pecans, and white chocolate drops. This was tasty a bit too dry for me, maybe next time add some vanilla ice cream?
Chocolate Souffle drizzled with pure melted chocolate and I added some fresh strawberries  and vanilla ice cream! Classic and delicious!
Another wonderful hot chocolate served with chocolate covered waffle balls inside 🙂 So tasty! Loved it!

After these photos, if you are not salivating you have issues! 😉
